Job Description

POSITION: Paramedic Preceptor, Per-Diem

LOCATION: San Jose, CA

 

 

SUMMARY:

The primary function of the Preceptor is to educate, evaluate, and motivate, through an active paramedic mentorship, specific to American Medical Response Northwest Plains Division and Sonoma County standards. (Santa Clara County standards)

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES   To include the following:

  • Performs all duties or functions of a full or part-time field employee that is assigned to a permanent unit.
  • Work with new employees to meet the objectives of the AMR Field Training and Evaluation Program and to satisfy the requirements for Sonoma County accreditation process. 
  • Work with existing employees (students)  identified as needing assistance to redevelop the knowledge, skill, or attitudes as outlined in a Clinical Education Assignment (CEA). (Replace with Personal Improvement Plan)
  • Regularly completes and submits written and verbal evaluations and/or recommendations regarding the employee’s performance to the CES Manager. (Replace with Internship Coordinator)
  • Plan, promote and organize training activities related to intervention, remediation and employee self-improvement to promote improved service quality and reliability.
  • Attend scheduled FTO (Replace with Preceptor) meetings and training events.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in retrospective chart review in accordance with established criteria.
  • Facilitate and participate in peer review and/or organized internal quality assurance or quality improvement activities.
  • Coach personnel to engage and participate in inspection and monitoring activities to ensure continuous adherence to clinical standards of quality patient care.
  • Mentor employees (replace with students), counsel and provide guidance/feedback to assigned personnel with a goal of developing a team oriented approach with positive results.
  • Other duties as assigned by the CES Manager. (Replace with Internship Coordinator)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, ACCREDITATIONS:

 

Current California Paramedic license

Current County Accreditation

**Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (CPR) card

**Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider card

**Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) OR Pediatric Education for Pre-Hospital Professionals (PEPP) Provider card

**Current Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) OR Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) Provider card (Not required but preferred)

Current Ambulance Driver’s license

Current Medical Examiner’s card

Current California Driver’s license

 

**An Instructor certification and/or Affiliate Faculty appointment in these specialties is preferred, but not required**

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Candidates must possess a minimum level of experience of two (2) years Paramedic experience with one (1) year held in Sonoma County.  Field experience must be full-time or regularly scheduled part-time with a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours per week. (Should this be 36 hours?) 

 

**Must not have had any clinical or operational issues within the past twelve (12) months**

 

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy/procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers or employees, and to individuals.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to develop and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
