Position Reports to: Specialty Fire Regional Director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Must be at least 18 years of age. Possess a valid Montana Driver’s License. Current state of Nevada Paramedic Certification and National Registry. Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS, BTLS OR PHTLS Provider Certification. Driving record in compliance with AMR policy regarding insurability. Some advanced education preferred. Minimum 3 years’ experience, 5 years’ preferred as a Paramedic, with the ability to function beyond the typical “street environment,” where treatment may be the priority not transport. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently and as a team member, employ discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas, read, interpret, and follow instructions. Available to work extended shifts at remote mine sites.
Full time shifts are 5 days on 9 days off.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes but not limited to):
The following list represents the primary responsibilities of a Paramedic. The relative importance of these responsibilities may vary from region to region and should be discussed by each Paramedic with his/her supervisor.
- Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
- Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
- Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
- Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
- Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
- Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
- Communicate with patient and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given, and to show compassion.
- Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
- Drive the ambulance and provide map reading support to minimize call response time.
- Keep current on certifications.
- Coach and educate partners of new and changing information as necessary.
- Communicate with dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback.
- Monitor and maintain the general condition of the work area, keep it clean and stocked to maintain the image of AMR.
- Participate in community programs to maintain AMR image and establish strong community relations.
- Document activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call.
- Negotiate with customers regarding additional service when appropriate
- Consider patient status and insurance preferred facilities when determining transportation destinations.
- Ability to work past scheduled shift with little or no notice.
- Work collaboratively with all allied health and public safety personnel at all times to ensure excellent customer service and the best possible patient care.
- Reports immediately to the on duty supervisor and/or account manager any incident involving a negative customer and/or patient interaction.
- Effective information systems security is a team effort involving the participation and support of every AMR employee who deals with information and/or information systems. It is the responsibility of every computer user to:
- Know and follow Information Systems security policies and procedures
- Attend Information Systems security training, when offered
- Report information systems security problems
- Must stay current with advanced training, instructor credentials, and continuing education.
- Must successfully complete and remain current with MSHA required courses, participate in mine rescue drills; and must maintain all mine safety policies and complete all safety training.
- Must participate at the Instructor level in EMS training for mine employees.
- Demonstrate expanded skills and objectives associated with eye exams, joint injuries, audiometric testing and pulmonary function testing.
- Demonstrate proficiency in respiratory fit testing associated with all filter masks required at mine sites.
- Demonstrate proficiency in wound management associated with use of Dermabond for wound closure.
- Demonstrate and test for the proficiency with Billings AMR protocols with noted additions and deletions associated with a mine environment.
- Obtain Department of Transportation certification in the collection and processing of urine and breath alcohol testing.
- Ability to function in an underground environment for extended periods of time with, or without, additional medical assistance.
- Obtain training for the recognition and treatment of specific underground gases present in a mine setting.
- Assist in achieving “back to work” status for employees as requested by the TRJV Safety and Industrial Hygiene departments.
- Assist Mine Rescue in both rescue execution and training.
- Ability to function independently and be a self starter in isolated locations that have poor communication and no support agencies.
- Function in confined spaces or dark locations without becoming claustrophobic.
- Capable of ascending a 75 foot vertical ladder with a trauma pack.
