    New Hire Supervisor -Oregon

     

     

    VISION:

     

    The New Hire Supervisor contributes to the profitable growth of ComTrans by providing a high level of customer service, through continual and timely Driver training and on-going communications and consistent direction and guidance to all newly hired Drivers for all Departments within ComTrans.

     

    BASIC FUNCTION:

     

    In support of the ComTrans mission and goals, the New Hire Supervisor directly manages the new Driver’s activities for the first 60 days of employment. The position provides vision, assistance and consistent direction to ensure the Drivers success and ability to perform at their highest level. This position will also play a key role in New Hire Orientation as well as participate and/or conduct driver training classes. The New Hire Supervisor utilizes business knowledge, management and leadership skills, creative thinking and excellent communication to support the new Driver. This position also provides guidance and additional training that may be identified as well as ensure that safety and company policies are consistently being practiced.     EMPLOYEE STATUS: Regular: Full-time; hourly / non-exempt position.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

     

    Education: High School Graduate, Degree preferred.

     

    Age: All ComTrans employees must be at least 18 years old, all driving positions are required to be at least 21 years old as required by insurance. Exceptions may be made for non-driving positions on a case-by-case basis and dependent upon the position and its responsibilities.

     

    Licensing/Registration/Certification:

     

     Valid AZ driver’s license.
     Approved by our insurance company as a driver.

     

    Company Provided Training/Certifications:

     

    Have or be able to obtain a level one fingerprint clearance card (if applicable)
     First Aid/CPR
     Crisis Prevention and Intervention.
    Complete ComTrans Driver Certification Training Program.

     

    Additional Certifications:


    Some positions at ComTrans require additional certifications when operating vehicles

    with a design capacity for 8 or more passengers.

     

     Must be certified through Comtrans to drive 15-passenger and wheel chair vans.
     Able to pass a Department of Transportation physical exam initially and upon
    expiration.
     Complete ComTrans certification program to operate a vehicle with a design of 8
    or more passengers.
     Certified as a wheelchair driver

     

    Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

     

    Must be able to:


     Communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
     Read, write, spell and orally communicate clearly in English.
     Work independently.
     Display exceptional leadership skills
     Be a strong team player.
     Understand customer service internally and externally.
     Very knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Programs.
     Use sound judgment in making decisions and solving problems.
     Knowledgeable and able to interpret ComTrans policies/procedures/handbook
     Utilize time management skills - prioritizing and planning.
     Be knowledgeable of routing, scheduling and mapping.
     Balance workload and demonstrate good organization skills.
     Understand basic math.

     

    Physical Requirements:


    The physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully
    perform the essential functions of the driver position. This position requires sitting
    behind a desk, filing, using the radio and answering telephones, typing.
     Ability to stand, climb stairs/steps, escort clients to and from destination, kneel,
    crouch, reach and extend arms.
     Able to grasp objects such as steering wheel, car seats, etc
     Sit in a driving or sitting position from 1 to up to 12 hours.
     Able to get in and out of vehicles multiple times per day
     Assisting students/clients in and out of the vehicles multiple times each day.
     Able to bend, kneel and secure wheelchairs and clients multiple times per day.
     Ability to lift or move at least 40 pounds
     When required, able to pass a Department of Transportation physical exam
    initially and upon expiration.
     Able to perform vehicle pre and post trip inspections daily and on any vehicle
     Able to work in a variety of environments; inside and outside, able to tolerate a
    variety of climate changes and conditions,
     Ability to perform sedentary work involving sitting most of the time and for long
    periods of time.
     Able to perform fingering activities such as typing.
     Perform repetitive activities such as typing, using a telephone
     Must have adequate visual acuity as required to perform activities such as
    preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, expansive
    reading.

     

    Administrative requirements

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:


    The New Hire Supervisor position reports directly to the Portland office Manager.

     

    AUTHORITY:


    The New Hire Supervisor is delegated the following authority:


     Approve direct reports time off.
     Verify and process payroll and overtime hours.
     Coaches his/her employees according to Company policies.
     Draft Consequence Management and manage Consequence Management program
    for employee(s) as appropriate

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES:


    The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to, the following:

     

    Management Tasks:


    Provide on-going leadership to New Drivers through:o Direction
    o Motivation
    o Guidance
    o Training

     Where appropriate, investigate complaints from customers and complete timely
    reports as required.
     Coordinate with assigned Program Supervisor/Manager the new Drivers
    performance over the past 60 days, and if applicable, recommend for step
    increase.
     Consistently administer the Consequence Management Program through
    disciplinary action and any assigning of points.
     Communicate expectations to Drivers on a timely basis.
     Ensure that Drivers have required trainings and meet competencies
     Coordinate the new Driver mentor trainer.
     Encourage teamwork among other employees.
     Maintain Driver profiles.
     Maintain schedule within payroll and dispatch system.
     Review time exceptions on all direct reports daily.
     Meet with new Drivers weekly, more often if needed.
     Touch base daily with the new Driver via telephone daily.
     Manage all new hire Driver mentor program-ensuring mentors have all required
    training and certifications as needed/identified, mentors provide consistent
    message and training, etc.
     Work closely with Director of Fleet Safety and Training Coordinator with regards
    to up to date training and changes to training materials and messages.
     Work with other supervisors/managers keeping them updated with regards to
    performance of new Drivers.


    Operational Tasks:


     Conduct New Hire Orientation as requested by Manager.
     Assist in the New Hire Driver/Staff training as requested.
     Review, analyze and check Drivers times, to ensure accurate payroll processing.
     Ensure Drivers are utilizing available tools
     Ensure Driver compliance with company policy and procedures.
     Review unresolved notes daily, educating the new Driver as needed.
     Document any work-related communications with Drivers, especially when there
    are performance issues.
     Work closely with HR on new Driver training after classroom training is
    completed.

     

    Staff Work:


     Where appropriate, respond to accidents by visiting the site and making a proper
    assessment.
     Maintain a safe work environment, including office and/or vehicles.
     Provide high customer service for all internal and external customers.
     Attend meetings and make presentations as needed.
     Perform management directed work as required.
     Other duties as assigned or required

     

    MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE:


    The Program Manager will evaluate the performance contribution of the New Hire Supervisor
    using the following criteria:


     High level of customer service. Responsiveness to client issues and concerns.
     Maintain compliance with safety standards.
     Manage subordinates in such a manner that their morale and productivity is
    maintained at the highest possible level.
     Training activities of the new Driver has been consistent with company policies,
    established procedures, and training curriculum.
     Responsiveness to deadlines.
     Timeliness and accuracy of reports and logs.
     Active participation in program meetings.
     Relationship with other Program Managers, Supervisors, Drivers, Co-workers and
    peers.
