  • Job Description

    Position Summary

    Without supervision, perform and supervise inspections and tests of all fire alarms and water-based fire protection systems other than foam-water, water-mist, and ultra-high-speed water spray systems, particularly those that require, for safety and accuracy, knowledge of system operation, materials, interfaces, specialized fire protection functions, and/or hydraulic effects of high or changing pressures.

     

     

    Essential Functions

     

    • Maintain various types of fire suppression systems
    • Maintain various types of fire alarm systems
    • Ensure fire alarms, automatic sprinkler systems; chemical extinguishing systems, fire/smoke dampers, meet the applicable local, State, and NFPA associated codes.
    • Assist in the tracking of and ensure the completion of all applicable documentation that is required to be maintained at each facility by the authorities having jurisdiction
    • Assist all trades in any maintenance issues or situations that may arise
    • Organize and apply systems and procedures for life safety inspections and maintenance
    • Investigates life safety code compliance issues and performs follow-up communications, actions and documentation
    • Accompanies local and state fire inspectors during inspections
    • Issues deficiency notices to appropriate building personnel
    • Keeps maintenance and inspection records on all emergency equipment
    • Performs some minor maintenance
    • Investigates life safety code compliance issues and performs follow-up communications, actions and documentation
    •  
    • Reports deficiencies after each inspection. (ADD) and performs follow up to ensure correction
    • Inspect and test all types of fire protection and prevention components such as; fire/smoke dampers, fire alarm systems, wet pipe sprinkler systems, dry pipe sprinkler systems,  etc…
    • Perform required annual inspections on fire alarm systems and all associated components
    • Perform required annual, semi-annual and quarterly inspections on fire sprinkler systems, suppression systems, and related components
    •  
    • Provide completed documentation to facility and managers for record keeping

     

    Additional Duties

    Perform other duties as directed or assigned that are specific to the local operation.

     

    Qualifications

    • Possess NICET Level III in the Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems.
    • Valid driver license with acceptable driving record in accordance with company
    • Able to work any shift assigned, including nights, holidays and
    • Available to work overtime as assigned and as needed on an emergency

    Must meet local standards pertaining to qualifications, training and/or eligibility for hiring placement or promotion.

     

    Educational Requirements

     

    High School diploma or GED required.

    While performing the duties of this job, fire department personnel are frequently required to walk, sit, climb, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, lift, talk, see, hear, feel, use clear speech and operate machinery.

    There is a need to work at heights over 50 feet in the air and in confined spaces, and reach and perform moderate (20­50 pounds) and frequent heavy (50­200 pounds) lifting during the use of tools and equipment.

    Constantly: Work requires the ability to read and write reports, follow orders and instructions and read fire manuals. General math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

    Office: Computers, printers, standard Microsoft Windows and Office software, fire/ems incident reporting system(s), etc.
